In the centre of Windhoek is a public park, it was a zoo up until The park is landscaped and features a pond, children's playground and open-air theatre. The park has a 2m stone column sculptured by a Namibian artist, Dorte Berner and marks the spot where the remains of prehistoric elephant bones were found and are thought to be between 5000 – 20 000 years old. The relics are now on display at the Geological Survey Museum.
